ALLERGIES: Is Your Pup Coping or Conquering?

itchydog.jpg

We hope your pup doesn’t suffer from allergies, but many do, and there are allergens everywhere.

Allergies can present themselves as many different symptoms in your dog. If you suspect your pup has allergies look out for these common symptoms…

  • Itchy Skin and Eyes

  • Watery Eyes

  • Hot Spots

  • Red Irritated Skin

  • Ear Infections

  • Constant Scratching/Licking

  • Scabs

  • Raw Patches

Don’t be discouraged. You can do a lot to help your dog by determining and treating the source of the allergy.

Food Allergens
Digestive upset, weight loss, itchy skin etc. can be signs of a food allergy. Many common dog  food ingredients can cause allergies like wheat, chicken, soy, lamb, beef and dairy products so it can be difficult to identify the exact cause. Allergies can develop later in life too, so your dog may suddenly become intolerant to a food they have eaten their whole lives. This can make it even harder to determine the exact cause of the symptoms. An elimination diet, under supervision of your vet, can help you find out which foods you should avoid for your dog.

Environmental Allergens
Environmental allergies are everywhere and often unavoidable. Your dog's contact with dust, mold and grass is inevitable. Pollen is the most common airborne allergen and can travel up to 100 miles. Frequent baths and wiping your pup down after coming in from outside helps to remove any pollen from the skin.

There are some products that can help keep your dog comfortable while you work on figuring out the root of the itch or irritation.

We recommend:

  • Zymox Topical Cream with 1.0% Hydrocortisone provides instant itch relief

  • Zymox Topical Spray Aids healing with combination of 3 enzymes and Hydrocortisone to reduce swelling and inflammation

ON ZYMOX®

Zymox not only brings relief to pets but to their owners as well. Over time, numerous veterinary visits for recurring chronic infections can be time-consuming, frustrating and extremely costly to a pet owner. ZYMOX®'s proven product line utilizes the LP3 Enzyme System for long-term maintenance and prevention of chronic ear and skin infections. These easy to use topical dermatology products are convenient, safe and effective.

Why are enzymes better? Enzymes are naturally occurring proteins that increase the rate of chemical reactions. They are natural defenses against harmful microbes.  They can be found in many places and have very specific jobs. Enzymes won’t irritate a pet’s sensitive or raw skin are very safe, non toxic for pets, people and the environment and most importantly, bacteria won’t develop resistance against enzymes, so they are always efficient.
